1  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / Re: Wil one of these batteries work with the N II? on: May 10, 2012, 08:18:50 am
Thanks!
I'm hoping the 3000 mah will give me a little more than 3 1/2 hours between charges.
2  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / Re: updating firmware on: May 09, 2012, 06:59:03 am
Have you tried using the "USB 2.0" upgrade method?

http://www.neurostechnology.com/node/128

It should work even with the USB 1.1 port on the "brain".

Looks like the GarBage branch is still on Sourceforge, but no binaries are available...

I hadn't thought of that but it worked.
Thanks!

I searched Sourceforge - under audio - for GarBage, garbage, Neuros, scrolled through the alphabetical list but I didn't find it under G.
Should I be using different search criteria?... or category?

edit:
Found a discussion list on Neuros firmware, of course it's old and dead but every link I find for the firmware leads to Neurostechnology.com which is about the Neuros Link.

another edit:
Found  #neuros on irc.. GarBage seems to be around but not getting an answer yet.

I've just found this   http://www.ioffer.com/i/1x-ultrafire-18650-3000mah-li-ion-battery-3-7v-for-toys-508974791
and am wondering if it would work.
65 x 18 mm

Also this one
http://www.ioffer.com/i/2pcs-ultrafire3000mah-3-7v-rechargeable-lithium-battery-188399442
description says 6.8cm and 1.8 cm diameter - is this too big?
4  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / updating firmware on: May 08, 2012, 08:57:15 am
I've got two N II's with older firmware on them and am trying to update one but it's not co-operating.
I cannot get the Neuros - either one - to be recognized by either windows (XP) or Ubuntu when it's in "update" mode.
They both mount immediately otherwise, but starting with the down+start, nothing!

I've tried formatting NAND and went ahead and formatted the drive itself and the file system - no help.

Anyone have an idea for me?

Also... is the garbage branch still available somewhere?

I may be the only person still deluded enough to think that Neuros Technology will eventually come out with the N III - unfortunately this forum doesn't attract many users any more and it hasn't been discussed in quite a while. Am I the only still hanging on?... and if you could put me out of my misery of hoping against hope, please do so if necessary.
Has the wretched ipod/pad and other competitors made the idea obsolete?
Tell me it ain't so.

Thanks!

6  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / General / Re: File system vs HD format. on: February 21, 2012, 04:36:50 am
Firmware is stored on its own flash, not on the HD.

Formatting the File System is a "Fast Wipe", the HDD is "Long Wipe", or whether we just empty the file table vs. actually starting from bare disk.

Makes sense... thanks!

Hello -- Have you changed the HardDrive? I think that the 7200/rpm drives will drain the battery
faster -- is this the case?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I did replace the drive in one a while back with an 80G drive but don't remember even which model I installed.
The other is the original 20G drive and acts the same way.

I'm going to wipe my N II and started wondering about the files system format vs the HD format.
I know what formatting an HD will do but what about the files system?
Does firmware get wiped with one or the other?... or both?
The User guide doesn't mention either and hoped there was an explanation somewhere.
Does anyone know?
Thanks!

Not to complain, but I also just got two of these batteries but cannot get more than about 3 hours out of them. They charged for at least 8 hours and have been completely drained, by playing music, three times so far but 3 hours is the max for both (in two separate N IIs.) ... and this is just playing an album, navigating to another and playing it, etc. ... no fast fwd'ing or other use of functions.
How do you manage to even approach 10 hours battery life with them?

I hadn't thought to try that.
I'll see if there's a difference next time it happens.

The backpack's USB is all I've ever used.
12  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Device / Main board dying? on: April 13, 2011, 06:42:01 am
I hate to think I may be losing my favorite DAC but lately when I plug in the USB jack it does not connect to the computer-Ubuntu - as it used to.  I've found that, so far,  if I erase the NAND it will then connect.
Is this an indication that the N2 is ready to give up the ghost?
Hopefully I am needlessly concerned as I've only had to do this the last couple times but it never behaved this way in the past and I haven't had any luck finding a used backpack lately.
Maybe that OSD thingy is selling enough to finance production of the long awaited N3?
I sure hope so!
13  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - Feedback & Discussion / Re: New Hard Hard Drive on: April 12, 2011, 06:43:16 pm
Is it possible to create two partitions, on let's say a 250G HD and use both partitions with the N2?
Most IDE drives (2.5") are much too large and 120 GB look to be pretty rare size.
Even the 5400 drives are getting hard to find in a smaller size.

I too have been waiting for the latest version of the Neuros "flagship product".
I guess the audiophile market can't compete with the video lovers?
