Actually yes im glad you asked, basically i haved the device hooked up such that the signal just runs from my cable box to the OSD to the tv, but what im trying to attempt to do is swich inputs with code, say to start outputing whats on the hard drive in a certain folder at a certain time.
bassically looking how to swich out puts on the fly, weather i want to load a movie from the flash drive or from the network. Obvioulsy the signal coming from the cable box would get interupted but i dont care about that.
and when im done playing the video from any other devise the out put then switchs back to the signal thats coming from the cable box.

the S-video is optional for recording? I looked at the image of the OSD and i didn't see any regular A/V input. What inputs does it have, standard a/v, s-video,component....>
In the image all i saw was a s-video input. image was on thinkgeek.com.

I haven't bought one yet, will soon, just need to know this first.
Can the OSD act as a cable box, in such away that if i'm watching channel 31 on my cable box which is connected to my OSD which is connected to my tv, will it show that channel, as if the OSD wasn't even there?
WHY is there only one S video input?
