I've got two N II's with older firmware on them and am trying to update one but it's not co-operating.
I cannot get the Neuros - either one - to be recognized by either windows (XP) or Ubuntu when it's in "update" mode.
They both mount immediately otherwise, but starting with the down+start, nothing!

I've tried formatting NAND and went ahead and formatted the drive itself and the file system - no help.

Anyone have an idea for me?

Also... is the garbage branch still available somewhere?

Have you tried using the "USB 2.0" upgrade method?

http://www.neurostechnology.com/node/128

It should work even with the USB 1.1 port on the "brain".

Looks like the GarBage branch is still on Sourceforge, but no binaries are available...

I hadn't thought of that but it worked.
Thanks!

I searched Sourceforge - under audio - for GarBage, garbage, Neuros, scrolled through the alphabetical list but I didn't find it under G.
Should I be using different search criteria?... or category?

edit:
Found a discussion list on Neuros firmware, of course it's old and dead but every link I find for the firmware leads to Neurostechnology.com which is about the Neuros Link.

another edit:
Found  #neuros on irc.. GarBage seems to be around but not getting an answer yet.

Good to know that Gar is still around.  I've not heard anything from him in a few years.

The SF repo isn't under GarBage at all...  I think it's just neuros-firmware.sf.net, but the page is pretty well dead, no commits in years, no binaries available.

Hey,

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but some of the custom firmwares including GarBage 2.26.1.7 are still available at:

http://web.archive.org/web/20080819214051/http://neuros-firmware.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/view/Main/DownloadsHub

You may have to right-click and "Save As" if a file is offered only as woid.hex, otherwise your browser treats it as text.

Also, if you try to follow a few of the links, you may have to go back in time using Archive's controls at the top for some of the sites to read more or download them.

For example:

Bernard Caferelli's:

http://web.archive.org/web/20050407033231/http://webeleves.emse.fr/~bcafarel/neuros/

The other two seem to download fine - smrtjustin's unfortunately is not available.  I was kind of amazed that Archive retrieved the files they did, because they tend to skip binaries more often than not.

Also, the gapless playback firmware by the author of Sorune:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/sorune/files/Firmware/

And, of course, stock firmware 2.28:
